How to have a fun indian wedding

  • 18TH FEBRUARY, 2024

Recently attended an Indian wedding filled with anticipation. Reconnecting with long-lost friends, family, and acquaintances was a highlight. Held at a prestigious hotel with promising weather, the pre-wedding events were engaging. The ceremony was beautifully conducted by the priest, and the unique cocktails at the reception were delightful. However, the lengthy pre-dinner program left many feeling hungry. By the time dinner was served, halfway through the reception, the atmosphere began to wane. Surprisingly, many guests, including close family members of the bride and groom, left early. It was only 10 pm, and the dance floor was sparsely populated. Despite joining the wedding couple and some friends for a dance after another glass of rosé, the evening concluded early.

Reflecting on the event, it became clear that despite the stunning visuals, the wedding lacked excitement. Often, the focus on aesthetics overshadows the essence of weddings, which should be about celebrating tradition, culture, and creating memorable experiences. To ensure a lively and enjoyable Indian wedding, consider the following tips:

Keep Your Guests Well-Fed and Comfortable:

Food is a crucial aspect of Indian weddings. While you don’t need elaborate multi-course meals, serving timely meals is important. If there are long gaps between events, provide self-serve snacks. For outdoor weddings, especially in hot weather, offer paper fans or umbrellas. Music should enhance the ambiance, not overpower it. Work with your DJ to ensure the volume is appropriate, allowing guests to enjoy their meals and dance later.

Incorporate Unique Elements:

Make your wedding stand out by introducing unique elements that guests will remember. Consider options like interactive photo booths, video guestbooks, live performances, or even fireworks for a grand finale. Offering unique or unconventional food items can also leave a lasting impression.

Consider Your Preferences and Your Guests' Preferences:

While it's your special day and you should prioritize what you love, it’s also essential to consider your guests’ preferences. Think about the diverse group attending your wedding, including older family members and international guests, when planning music, food, and drinks.

Communicate the Schedule to Your Gues

Provide your guests with a clear itinerary for the wedding events. Even though you’ve sent out invitations with event timings, it helps to inform them about what to expect throughout the weekend. This will enable them to plan and enjoy the festivities better.

Allow Time for Rest:

Indian weddings can be tiring due to travel, pre-wedding events, and the main ceremony. Schedule breaks between events to allow your guests to rest, especially between the ceremony and the reception. If guests are staying at nearby hotels, they can use this time to relax.

Be Engaged and Enjoy the Celebration:

As the wedding couple, your guests want to see you having a good time. Engage with them, dance, talk, and celebrate together. Remember, it’s your wedding day, so relax and enjoy every moment alongside your guests. Don’t just be a spectator; be an active part of the celebration.

In conclusion, by focusing on the overall experience, considering your guests’ needs, and adding unique elements, you can ensure that your Indian wedding is not only visually stunning but also enjoyable and memorable for everyone involved.
